Yellow Mini Hibiscus, a rare and delightful member of the Hibiscus hirtus family, is a perennial favorite for those who love "wild" garden aesthetics. Known as Nitya Malli in Telugu, Kattupiratti in Tamil, and Lesser Mallow in English, this variety produces dainty, cheerful yellow flowers that contrast beautifully against its green foliage. These seeds have been hand-tested in my own garden to ensure they produce hardy, pest-resistant plants that can withstand the Indian heat. Unlike large hybrid hibiscus that require heavy feeding, the Yellow Mini Hibiscus is a low-maintenance, consistent bloomer. Its petite size and constant flowering cycle make it a perfect addition for fellow hobby gardeners looking to bring a pop of sunshine to their balcony, terrace or windowsill.
Sowing Instructions for Indian Climate: Yellow Mini Hibiscus (Hibiscus hirtus)
Best Sowing Time: Spring (February–March) and Monsoon (June–August). It thrives in the warm, tropical Indian weather.
Temperature for Germination: 22-32°C.
Soil: Light, well-draining soil. A mix of garden soil, river sand, and organic compost is ideal.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. At least 5 hours of direct sunlight ensures the most vibrant yellow blooms.
Watering: Moderate. Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging. Once established, it is quite resilient.
Spacing: 12-18 inches apart. Very suitable for medium pots or as a low-hedging border.
Germination Time: 15-30 days. Gently scratching the seed coat (scarification) or soaking in water for 12 hours helps speed up germination.
